What is Mono crystalline Solar panel

Monocrystalline Solar panels, originated in the 1950's and are generally thought of as a premium solar product. The main advantages of moncrystalline panels are higher efficiencies and sleeker aesthetics.

To make solar cells for monocrystalline solar panels, silicon is formed into bars and cut into wafers. These types of panels are called “monocrystalline to indicate that the silicon used is single-crystal silicon. Because the cell is composed of a single crystal, the electrons that generate a flow of electricity have more room to move.

Benefits of a Monocrystalline Solar Panel:

  1. Monocrystalline solar panels have the highest efficiency rates since they are made out of the highest-grade silicon.
  2. They are space-efficient and live the longest.
  3. They yield the highest power outputs, they also require the least amount of space compared to any other types.
  4. Monocrystalline Solar Panel tend to perform better than similarly rated polycrystalline solar panels at low-light conditions.

Disadvantages of a Monocrystalline Solar Panel:

  1. Monocrystalline solar panels are the most expensive.
  2. If the solar panel is partially covered with shade, dirt or snow, the entire circuit can break down.
  3. They are very fragile and can be broken by tree branches or by objects carried by a strong wind.
  4. They tend to be more efficient in warm weather and the performance suffers as the temperature goes up.
