Rechargeable Battery used in solar lights

Overview:

Off-grid systems and standalone solar lights require battery storage. These batteries have capacity to charge and discharge electrical current multiple times. Type of battery which has this ability to accumulate and discharge current when needed is called rechargeable battery.

Rechargeable Batteries Charge Cycle :

Charge cycle is number of times a battery can be charged and discharged. Life span of the battery is measured based on the charge cycle. This does not mean that battery stops working. However efficiency of battery reduces below 80%. Lead Acid Batteries : There are many types of lead acid batteries. Charge cycle is less than 350. That means depending on the usage it can work for over 1 to 2 years. Lithium-ion battery or Li-ion : This types have charge cycle of 500. Works 3 -5 years. Lithium Iron phosphate (LiFePO4): It has 1000 cycles. Works 5 -7 Years.

Usage of Rechargeable Batteries :

Almost all the solar lights will use rechargeable batteries. In simple terms, if you need the electricity at night(from solar energy) , there is no way other than storing them using batteries. However On-grid system do not need them. Below are the few solar application using rechargeable batteries.
  1. Solar Indoor Lights
    1. Solar Home Lighting System.
    2. Solar Emergency Lights.
    3. Solar Mobile Charger.
  2. Solar Outdoor Lights.
    1. Solar Garden Lights.
    2. Solar Street Lights.
    3. Solar Camping Lights.
    4. Solar Flood Lights.
  3. Solar Security systems.
    1. Solar Fencing.
    2. Solar Motion sensor lights.
    3. Solar cameras.
