Adani and Softbank bid to the undersubscribed Indian Hybrid Solar and Wind auction

The 1.2 GW hybrid solar and wind auction, the very new of its kind called by Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) drew major bidders like Adani and Softbank, in spite of this the bid was undersubscribed by 150 MW. The original 2.5 GW was reduced to 1.2 GW early this year. Here, the bid by Adani was for 600 MW and Softbanks unit SB Energy bid for 450 MW, as per the sources. It is not clear if SECI will hold another auction or honor the current bid on the project from yesterdays auction. This tender was meant to lead the new National Wind-Solar Hybrid policy and the country saw its first large-scale wind and solar project inaugurated in Karnataka by Hero Future Energies in the month of April. Hero had an intention to add energy storage systems to the project after a year of higher than expected wind had caused the plant to experience some restriction, as disclosed to PV Tech. Indias 10 GW solar and 3 GW manufacturing tender recently drew barely one bidder, Azure Power, so this depicts an example of the industry giving tepid response to the huge tender plans of the Indian Government in recent weeks.
